ment made in my despatch No.186 of the 4th, ultimo to the ef-
fect that contracts had been entered into for the construction
of the Women and Children's Hospital and Nursing Institute was
not accurate.

2. The enclosed copy of a letter from the Chair-
man of the Jubilee Committee shows that on account of the great
increase in the tenders received for the construction of the
Hospital and Nursing Institute, as compared with the Estimates of their Architects, it had been found impossible to carry out the project in its entirety and that contracts for only the
Hospital and quarters for a Resident Surgeon and Staff of Nur-
ses had been entered into.
The quarters for the Nursing Staff are however sufficiently large to admit of the accommodation in them of 2 probationers, and in view of that fact and of the dilemma in which the Jubilee Committee was placed by the enormous rise in the cost of building operations in the Colony, and of the fur- ther fact that Government will be relieved of an annual expen- diture of $720 by the provision of the quarters for the Resi- The Right Honourable
